The official Knesset probe into the conduct of Operation Protective Edge was already underway, even before the current ceasefire with Hamas went into effect last Tuesday, Ynet reported on Monday night.
The first senior official to provide testimony: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
On Tuesday, the head of the National Security Council, Yossi Cohen, and IDF Military Intelligence Director Maj. Gen. Aviv Kochavi, are slated to appear before the committee.
IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz and other high-ranking military and civilian leaders are also expected to testify in the coming weeks.
The committee is also expected to publish an interim report in January 2015 — which means it will coincide with the annual budget negotiations, usually a time of fierce debate.
On a separate track, state comptroller Yosef Shapira will be investigating matters of international law, with a special focus on investigations of alleged war crimes by international bodies.
Shapira will also review the country’s preparedness for dealing with the threat posed by the Gaza terror tunnels. Recently it emerged that senior government officials knew about the problem for years, but nothing was done.
