2nd Attacker Arrested In Elevator Robbery

BROOKLYN

A second arrest was made Thursday in the assault by two teens caught on a surveillance camera savagely beating and robbing a woman in an apartment-building elevator.

Malique Young was nabbed by police in the attack which occurred last Sunday night, a day after Tyler Hoppin was brought in. The duo, both of whom are 18 years old, were charged with robbery, assault, and criminal possession of stolen property for the robbery, which took place near Avenue M and East 18th St.

Councilman Chaim Deutsch, who put up a $2,500 reward for information in the mugging, thanked police for the quick arrests and called for funding high-definition video cameras for apartment buildings.

“The timely arrest of the two culprits in this vicious crime is also due in part to the existence of clear, quality surveillance footage that was obtained of the attack,” said Deutsch, the founder of the Flatbush Shomrim and a Democrat who represents the area. “Security cameras are becoming increasingly significant in the policing and safety of our neighborhoods.”
