Modern Furniture Store Outfits Gracie for Residency

Two days after its first residents in 15 years moved in, Gracie Mansion has gotten a makeover.

Mayor Bill de Blasio’s administration announced Wednesday that the official New York City mayoral residence received a donation from the modern furniture chain West Elm. But it was made to the Gracie Mansion Conservancy, meaning the furniture will remain in the home after the mayor, his wife and their two teenage children move out.

The First Family moved into the mansion this week, the home’s first residents since 2001.

A mayoral spokeswoman said cost of the furniture is $65,000. Until now, the 1799 mansion had been decorated with largely period furnishings.
