Island Near Buffalo Overrun by Hundreds of Cats

NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y.

The Niagara River’s tiny Tonawanda Island has a big cat problem thanks to people who have abandoned hundreds of felines there over the years, WIVB reported. Mike Charnock, who owns a marina and restaurant on the 85-acre island, says the cats are making a mess and even have gotten onto boats. Danielle Coogan has launched Operation Island Cats to trap them and have them spayed or neutered.
