A special rabbinical court convened by the IDF to determine the status of Oron Shaul, the soldier who went missing in Gaza, has officially declared him deceased, but noted that the place of his burial is unknown.
Hamas claimed to have kidnapped Shaul last Sunday, during heavy fighting on the Gaza border. A masked spokesman for Hamas displayed a photo ID and the army serial number, but showed no image of Shaul in Hamas’s hands.
Senior members of the military’s rabbinical corps, including Brig. Gen. Rabbi Rafi Peretz, visited the family in Puria, near Teveria, to inform them how, based on examination of the evidence, they came to this conclusion.
