Prison Closing Could Affect Grant’s Death Site

WILTON, N.Y. -

The closing of a state prison could affect future operations of the nearby historic site where President Ulysses S. Grant died, the Times-Union reported. Mount McGregor Correctional Facility closed Saturday, but it shares a mountaintop and utilities with the Grant Cottage State Historic Site, where the president from 1869 to 1876 died of throat cancer in 1885.
