Brazil Leaves in Huff Over Gaza Operation
Brazil has recalled its ambassador to Israel in protest over the military operations in the Gaza Strip, The Jerusalem Post reported on Thursday.
The Brazilian foreign ministry said called the “escalation of violence between Israel and Palestine” [sic] as unacceptable. “We strongly condemn the disproportionate use of force by Israel in the Gaza Strip.”
Israel responded by belittling the incident.
“This is an unfortunate demonstration of why Brazil, an economic and cultural giant, remains a diplomatic dwarf,” said Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor.
“The moral relativism behind this move makes Brazil an irrelevant diplomatic partner, one who creates problems rather than contributes to solutions.”
Brazil was also among the 29 countries that voted in the U.N. Human Rights Council this week to probe alleged Israeli rights violations in Gaza.
