Communities and businesses that are suffering serious financial losses due to the fighting in the south have been promised swift compensation and tax easements by the Finance Ministry, Globes reported on Tuesday.
“Our job is to provide you with an economic Iron Dome that you can rely on,” said Minister of Finance Yair Lapid during a tour of Sederot with senior Ministry of Finance officials. Even as the official entourage arrived, a Kassam rocket was fired at the town.
Lapid outlined the benefits to come, including an extension on tax payments for small busineses and citizens residing within 25 miles of the Gaza Strip and another NIS 15 million to meet immediate security needs, such as renovating shelters.
In addition, he pledged that compensation for losses incurred during Operation Protective Edge would be made even before its conclusion. In past conflicts, the government was criticized for slowness in providing compensation and its reluctance to acknowledge legitimate claims.
