112th Yahrtzeit, Harav Yaakov Joseph, zt”l, To Be Marked

QUEENS

Tuesday marks the 112th yahrtzeit of Harav Yaakov Joseph, zt”l, Rav Hakollel of New York City. Hundreds of Yidden, both men and women, will come to Union Field Cemetery in the Ridgewood section of Queens to visit the tziyun.

Harav Joseph, a talmid of the Netziv, zt”l, and of Harav Yisrael Salanter, zt”l, served as Dayan in Vilna before being invited by the kehillos in New York City to serve as the city’s Chief Rabbi. Upon his arrival in 5648/1888, Harav Joseph strove valiantly to strengthen Yiddishkeit in the city until his untimely passing in 5662/1902.
