Feds Dismiss Petition to Blame TWA 800 on Missile

WASHINGTON -

The National Transportation Safety Board on Wednesday denied a petition seeking to blame the 1996 crash and break-up of TWA Flight 800 off the coast of Long Island on a missile, rather than the official explanation of an oxygen buildup in a fuel tank, The Associated Press reported. The TWA 800 Project said a “detonation or high-velocity explosion” was seen by eyewitnesses.
