New York, New Jersey Storm Projects Chosen
Federal officials said on Monday they’ll fund at more than $500 million a series of designs to protect the New York City and New Jersey region from storms like Sandy, The Associated Press reported. Projects would create an 8-mile system of dykes around Manhattan, protect a key food market in the Bronx or drain stretches of Long Island. Artificial islands will be created along the coast to blunt the force of storm surges.
