N.Y. Legislators Back Lunar New Year School Closings
New York’s legislature approved a bill to let schools close on days when religious or cultural observances will keep most of their students at home, The Associated Press reported. Many Asian-American areas, like Chinatown in Manhattan and Flushing, have absentee rates as high as 60 percent on the Lunar New Year.
