Former city Controller John Liu will run against Queens Democrat incumbent Sen. Tony Avella, who angered party leaders last month by joining a faction of breakaway Democrats who jointly control the Senate with the GOP, the Daily News reported. Democrats are expected to coalesce around his bid.
