De Blasio Halts Bloomberg-Era Outer-Boro Taxis
Mayor Bill de Blasio’s administration on Thursday announced that it is putting the brakes on the growth of the new green taxi service that was commissioned to expand street-hail service to the boroughs outside of Manhattan.
More than 5,000 cabs now patrol all parts of the city, which had been authorized to issue an additional 6,000 permits.
On its surface, opposition does not mesh with de Blasio’s image; he hails from Brooklyn and has long said he wants to more equally distribute city services. But he received significant campaign contributions from the cab union.
