Al-Qaida Threat Prompts India Alert
Israeli citizens traveling in India were alerted by their government to a possible terror attack by al-Qaida or a group linked to it, India reported on Sunday.
The alert, conveyed by Israel to Indian intelligence services, has generated concern that terrorist organizations are gaining more of a foothold in the country.
Specifically, the warning mentioned that al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb, al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula and Ansar al-Sharia may seek to target Israeli nationals, particularly at hotels, Chabad centers, synagogues and restaurants. Indian airports and seaports where Israeli ships arrive were also mentioned.
In the horrific Mumbai terror attacks in 2008, in which 164 people were killed, Chabad emissaries Rabbi Gavriel and Rivkah Holtzberg, Hy”d, perished in Nariman House, one of the sites seized by the terrorists.
