NYC Makes $300M in Mistaken Retiree Payments

NEW YORK

New York City accidentally made duplicate deposits of nearly $300 million into the accounts of retired cops and firefighters. Comptroller Scott Stringer said that the payments to 31,019 retirees Wednesday night will be reversed on Friday, adding that he is “deeply concerned” about the process that led to the error.
