Lawmaker Wants to Raise NJ’s Famed Low Gas Tax

TRENTON, N.J. -

The chairman of the state Senate’s Budget Committee says New Jersey should increase the gas tax to fund its transportation infrastructure needs, The Associated Press reported. Sen. Paul Sarlo, a Democrat, criticized Gov. Chris Christie’s administration for failing to follow its own pay-go transportation plan. “All we’ve done is borrow, borrow, borrow,” Sarlo said before Tuesday’s hearing on Christie’s proposed budget for the fiscal year that starts July 1.
