De Blasio Doubles Down on Carriage Horse Ban

NEW YORK -

Despite polls showing wide support for keeping carriage horses trotting down Manhattan’s streets, Mayor Bill de Blasio is not backing off his campaign promise to ban them and replace them with electric cars. Supporters say the animals are a city institution and jobs will be lost if they are banned while foes call it cruel. But de Blasio said Thursday that legislation is being drafted in the City Council that would ban the horses.
