3 Long Island Teens Charged in Knockout Assault

BRENTWOOD, N.Y. (AP/Hamodia) —

Three teenagers have been arrested in connection with the knockout assault on a 52-year-old Long Island woman earlier this month.

The victim was punched and kicked in the attack on March 7 as she walked along a street in Brentwood. Police say there was no prior interaction and nothing was taken from the victim. She was taken to a hospital where she was treated for a concussion and broken ribs.

Police on Monday charged Qwatese Jarvis, 16, Wayne Beavers, 16, and Wilfredo Torres, 17, with third degree assault.

The assailants were silent as they were brought out of the police station Monday, except for one of them, who mouthed a brief “no,” when asked by a reporter if the attack was “part of a knockout game.”

Knockout attacks, in which mostly minority teens try to knock out a person with a single blow, have subsided in recent months, due to record cold weather, several arrests and a beefed up police presence.
