MK Chetboun Gets Vote of Support
MK Yoni Chetboun of the Jewish Home party, who cast the lone vote in the Netanyahu coalition against the chareidi draft bill, received a statement of support from several prominent religious-Zionist rabbinical figures on Thursday, Arutz Sheva reported.
Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu, Chief Rabbi of Tzfas; Rabbi Elyakim Levanon, Chief Rabbi of Shomron, and Rabbi Nachum Nerya, heads of the Torah B’Tzion yeshivah, all stood up for Chetboun on Thursday.
In a statement signed by them as an ad in Arutz Sheva’s weekly paper, B’Sheva, the rabbis wished Chetboun “Hazak v’ametz,” a traditional blessing for strength to continue in the same path.
MK Chetboun was severely and publicly disciplined by his party for his principled vote against the bill, having to forfeit a Knesset committee position and his deputy speaker role.
