Bill Would Make Yogurt NY’s First Official Snack

Proposed legislation Friday would make the humble and healthy yogurt New York state’s first official snack, one of five states to make such a designation, Capital New York reported. New York currently has the apple both as state muffin and state fruit. There is no official state vegetable after conflicting bills in 2011 arguing for the onion or sweet corn were both not taken up. Under consideration now is the wood frog as the state amphibian. The four other states with official snacks are Illinois’s popcorn, South Carolina’s boiled peanuts, Texas’s tortilla chips and salsa, and Utah’s Jell-O.
