Christie Nominates Familiar Education Commissioner
Gov. Chris Christie on Thursday nominated former state education commissioner David Hespe to return to his post. Hespe was described by an Orthodox education activist as a “good friend” of the yeshivah community during his time leading the department from 1999 to 2001. Hespe, currently the president of Burlington County College, is replacing Christopher Cerf. If confirmed by the Senate, he will run a department that is instituting more rigorous teacher evaluations and changing its standardized tests for students.
