Toms River Tells Residents: ‘Shovel or Else’

TOMS RIVER, N.J.

Couch potatoes, beware: Toms River’s council voted Tuesday night to make it a costly proposition to leave snow un-shoveled on your sidewalk. The first offense gets a $100 fine, and $200 for each subsequent offense, the Asbury Park Press reported. The penalties can’t exceed $1,000, but each day a sidewalk isn’t cleared counts as a separate offense. A day of advance notice of violation is required before a fine can be issued.
