New Signs on GWB Will Help Drivers Navigate
Motorists traveling over the George Washington Bridge are seeing new signs designed to help smooth their trip.
The Port Authority says it recently completed two projects to put up 15 variable message signs on both sides of the bridge. The signs can provide up-to-date information on traffic conditions, travel times and alternate routes.
The Port Authority, which operates the bridge, approved the “smart sign” projects in 2012.
In combination with the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, 11 of the signs were installed in New Jersey on eastbound roads leading to the bridge. Four more were installed on the New York side.
The additional information will reduce congestion and fuel consumption.
