NY Legislative Staffer Fired After Whale Bill Flap
A New York legislative staffer was fired Thursday following a news report that a senator’s bill memo appeared to have copied text from a 17-year-old Chicago high school junior’s article on killer whales, The Times-Union of Albany reported. State Sen. Greg Ball (R-Putnam) said the unidentified staffer responsible for the memorandum about a bill banning New York aquariums from keeping killer whales has been “terminated” after nearly identical passages appeared in a Huffington Post piece. “I feel really happy that the bill was made,” Donald Julius Rapier said, “but I’m a little disappointed that they wouldn’t reach out to me or even cite me.”
