Ex-LIRR Worker Sentenced in Copper Theft Scheme

MINEOLA, N.Y.

A former Long Island Rail Road signalman on Tuesday was ordered to pay fines and restitution for participating in a scheme to steal copper wire, Newsday reported. The prosecutor had sought 90 days in jail for Michael Carsten, but the judge said he should get on with his life. The scheme netted more than $253,000 over three years.
