LI Lawmaker Wants to Ban Biking on Streets

MINEOLA -

A lawmaker claiming it is too dangerous for people to bike on the street wants to ban it in Suffolk County, Newsday reported. County legislator Thomas Barraga wrote to the son of a Long Island woman who was injured by a car while bicycling that no one should ever ride on county roads. The letter came in response to the teenager, who had suggested bike lanes or signs warning drivers to be careful. Suffolk makes up almost 20 percent of the state’s cycling fatalities.
