Home Depot to Hire 80,000 Nationwide for Spring

Home Depot’s hometown may be iced over for the moment, but that isn’t stopping the company from looking ahead to spring.

The Atlanta-based home-improvement giant said Wednesday that it is hiring 80,000 temporary workers nationwide in anticipation of its big spring selling season, the busiest time of the year for the company.

Some of the jobs will transition to permanent employment, said spokesman Stephen Holmes.

“We’ll try to keep as many on board permanently as we can for regular positions,” he said.

The job news comes just days after the company opened a 1-million-square-foot “fulfillment center” south of Atlanta, one of three planned in the next 12 months. The facility brings 125 jobs, which Home Depot says it will eventually increase to 300.

Spring is busiest for the company, as consumers ramp up yard work, including planting in gardens, building decks and pruning trees. They also take on indoor projects, such as painting and installing laminate and hardwood flooring.
