NY Assembly Back Lunar New Year School Closings
Several New York legislators are backing a measure expected to pass this week that would let New York City close schools on Jan. 31, the Chinese Lunar New Year, if it will likely result in “a considerable proportion” of absences. One in six public school students are Asian American, with some districts having up to 80 percent absent rates.
