Former Spring Valley Pol Admits Accepting Bribe

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -

The former deputy mayor of Spring Valley admitted Wednesday to accepting bribes for a real estate project, The Associated Press reported. After Joseph Desmaret pleaded guilty, prosecutors agreed not to seek a sentence of greater than nine years. His case was part of the prosecution of a scheme to buy a spot on the New York City mayoral ballot for state Sen. Malcolm Smith. Desmaret is the second to take a plea deal.
