NY Now Requires Newborn Screening
As of Monday, New York hospitals were required to screen newborns for heart defects under a new law that took effect. The one-minute pulse oximetry screening provides early detection of heart defects that could be addressed quickly by surgery. The process involves taping a sensor to a newborn’s foot as a light beam measures oxygen in the blood.
