NY State Teachers Union Pulls Common Core Support
New York’s largest teachers union withdrew its support for the new Common Core learning standards until the state agrees to make “major course corrections,” The Associated Press reported. They declared “no confidence” in Education Commissioner John King and want a three-year moratorium on teacher firings or students kept from graduating because of the statndard. King and Regents Chancellor Merryl Tisch said they stand by the standard but will adjust implementation.
