NYC First Lady Appoints Chief of Staff

NEW YORK (AP) —

The former communications director for Al Sharpton’s civil rights organization was named Monday as chief of staff to New York City’s first lady, Chirlane McCray.

Mayor Bill de Blasio and McCray named Rachel Noerdlinger to the position. The founder and president of Noerdlinger Media had served as executive vice president of communications for Sharpton’s National Action Network.

McCray says Noerdlinger “shares my commitment to bringing social justice to the forefront” of the city.

De Blasio says she “has been a strong voice for this city’s underserved communities.”

The couple says Noerdlinger brings two decades of experience fighting for civil rights and better opportunities for low-income and minority groups.

Noerdlinger says she looks forward to working with McCray.

The mayor called his wife “my partner in everything I do.”
