NY Proposes 10-Year Bear Management Plan

ALBANY -

State wildlife officials have drafted an updated black bear management plan for the next decade, with public comments accepted until Feb. 21, The Associated Press reported. New York’s bear population is between 6,000 and 8,000, with about 50 to 60 percent in the Adirondacks and 30 to 35 percent in the Catskills. Expanded hunting is recommended in the Catskills and southwestern Hudson Valley.
