With a Dec. 31 deadline, Gov. Andrew Cuomo is urging homeowners to register for the Basic STAR property tax exemption, which could save an average of $700 for more than 2 million residents. A one-time registration is required to continue receiving the benefit in 2014 and beyond. Homeowners can register at www.tax.ny.gov or by calling 518-457-2036.
