Port Authority to Probe Bridge Lane Closings

FORT LEE, N.J. (AP) —

Amid speculation among some New Jersey Democrats that unannounced closings on the George Washington Bridge in the summer were taken to punish the Democratic mayor of Fort Lee, who did not endorse Republican Gov. Chris Christie for re-election, the Port Authority inspector general said Wednesday he will investigate. The closures stalled traffic in Fort Lee for hours. Christie says the claim is “crazy.”
