Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Friday that a Brooklyn school opening next year will be named after South African leader Nelson Mandela.
The Boys and Girls High School building in Bedford-Stuyvesant will be named The Nelson Mandela School for Social Justice. Mandela, one of the world’s most beloved figures, died Thursday. He visited the school during a visit to New York in 1990, months after he was released from his 27-year prison term for political offenses in apartheid South Africa.
