Bloomberg Expects Kelly to Stay in Office Until Dec. 31

NEW YORK

Raymond Kelly will stay on as NYPD commissioner until the end of the year, when Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s administration ends, the mayor said Tuesday. “Why would he step down before the end of the year?” Bloomberg at a high school in Bedford-Stuyvesant. “If he has plans to do that, he certainly has not shared it with me. I would expect him to be the police commissioner through midnight on Dec. 31. I’ll be the mayor through midnight Dec. 31. And I will go to my successor’s inauguration, wish him well and then get out of his way.” Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio is expected to name a replacement commissioner sometime this week.
