Hispanic Claims Wrongly Stopped at Macy’s

NEW YORK (AP) —

Maria Paez, of Venezualan origin, claimed Tuesday she was wrongly accused of shoplifting at Macy’s for speaking Spanish, adding to the fire of race accusations made by minority customers over the past month. She was in Macy’s on Sept. 12. She put items in a bag to carry to another part of the store when she was arrested, forced to sign a confession and pay $500. She was charged with larceny and possession of stolen property.
