Misaskim $10,500 Short to Pay for Four Meisei Mitzvah

BROOKLYN

Nearly half of the $25,800 needed to pay for four meisei mitzvah has been raised, leaving $10,500 that still needs to come in for the Jewish burials performed by Misaskim, a spokesman for the disaster relief organization said Thursday.

Among those who passed away were a Jew who died alone in an institution in upstate New York without next of kin, an elderly woman in Richmond, Va., who was almost cremated when a caretaker forged her last will and testament and a Jew who died in a Rochester prison.

Misaskim officials said that they need the money within the next few days to preserve their credibility. They are asking the community in an ad campaign titled “We Did It For You!” to help defray the $10,500 balance for the meisei mitzvah.
