American Airlines Testing Bidding for Upgrades

DALLAS (AP) —

American Airlines is testing the idea of letting customers bid for upgrades to premium cabins.

Passengers can submit a bid — along with a credit card number — up to six days before the flight.

On its website, the airline invites travelers to make an offer, saying they will be sent an email before check-in to let them know if their bid has been accepted.

Spokesman Matt Miller says American will decide in the coming weeks whether customers like the bidding option.
