Republican Adds to Lead in AC Mayor Race

MAYS LANDING, N.J. (AP) —

A week after he won at the polls, Republican Don Guardian declared victory — again — in the Atlantic City mayoral race as election officials counted provisional and mail-in ballots on Tuesday.

Guardian, who would be the seaside resort’s first Republican mayor in 23 years, added to the 347-vote lead he enjoyed on election night, now leading Democratic Mayor Lorenzo Langford by a 433-vote margin — a number greater than the number of ballots still to be counted.

The election board will resume counting votes on Wednesday, and has until next Monday to certify the results of the election.
