Google Fiber Begins Connections in Provo

PROVO, Utah

Google Fiber has begun hooking up residents in Provo to the new high-speed internet service.

Google Fiber spokeswoman Jenna Wandres says they have started with residents who were previously getting service from the company that used the fiber optic network, Veracity. She says the rest of Provo residents will begin getting hooked up in January.

Google Fiber officials announced in April they had chosen Provo as the third city for the service, in addition to Kansas City, Mo., and Austin, Texas.

Provo residents can get basic internet service at no charge for at least seven years if they pay a $30 hookup fee.

They can get a much faster, gigabit internet for $70 a month, and gigabit internet other services for $120 a month.
