NY Health Exchange Affected by Federal Glitch
The New York Health Exchange has been unable to process applications for low-cost insurance during shutdowns of related federal databases, which occurred Sunday and again intermittently Wednesday.
The state exchange, created separately, has remained open for browsing, as well as selecting insurance by those with completed and approved applications. However, it requires connecting to federal databases to verify citizenship and income levels to complete new applications.
New York’s exchange has also taken down its list of nonprofit “Navigators” and meeting locations for prospective applicants after errors reportedly showing some retail businesses intended as convenient meeting locations, including a spa, pharmacy and taxi garage, were erroneously listed as navigators to help people file applications.
Health Department spokesman Bill Schwarz says the list will be updated, corrected and posted again.
