A Nation Mourns
As we go to print there are many questions and few answers about what happened on Monday inside a building at the Washington Navy Yard. What we do know is that at least one gunman opened fire, killing 13 people.
It remains unclear what Aaron Alexis’s motives were for this dastardly rampage or precisely how he managed to get into the heavily secured installation less than four miles from the White House.
What we do know is that America has now suffered yet another senseless tragedy, another devastating mass shooting. In the days, weeks and months to come, America will await answers as to how and why and, most importantly, what can possibly be done to try to prevent such attacks from occurring in the future.
Now, however, is a time of national mourning, and we join all of America in expressing our deepest condolences to the family members and friends of the innocent victims.
