Deli Owner Deters Robbery With Hot Oil

LINDEN, N.J. (AP) —

The owner of a New Jersey deli on Monday foiled an attempted armed robbery by throwing hot oil on the suspect.

A man dressed in a blue winter coat entered Cos’s Corner Deli in Linden and pointed a handgun at the owner. The owner grabbed a pot of hot oil and hurled it at the man while he rifled the cash register, sending the suspect fleeing. He said he couldn’t stand there and watch the suspect take his “hard-earned money.”
