Christie ‘Proud’ to Have Lonegan Run for U.S. Senate

FLEMINGTON, N.J. (AP) -

Gov. Chris Christie on Tuesday endorsed the conservative running for U.S. Senate in New Jersey, saying he’s “proud” to have Steve Lonegan as the Republican candidate.

The governor’s endorsement had been anticipated. But it remains questionable how much more Christie will do to aid the Senate candidate.

The governor is running for re-election and in recent weeks has been staking out the middle ground.

Lonegan is running against Democrat Cory Booker, a friend of Christie’s, whom a new poll shows has a double-digit lead over Lonegan.
