Christie Signs Law Targeting Texting While Driving

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) —

Gov. Chris Christie signed legislation ordering signs throughout New Jersey to remind drivers not to text and drive.

“Nikki’s Law” is named after Nikki Kellenyi, an 18-year-old state resident who was killed in an April 2012 vehicle crash. Investigators say it was “inconclusive” whether illegal cell phone use played a role in the accident. But the crash spurred his family to start a nonprofit group to raise awareness about the dangers of texting and driving.
