6 Independents Run in N.J. Senate Race
Republican Steve Lonegan and Democrat Cory Booker will have company on the Senate ballot Oct. 16. Six independent and minor-party candidates have also filed to run.
Robert DePasquale is running on an anti-immigration platform. Stuart David Meissner is focusing on overhauling alimony laws. Edward Stackhouse Jr. has the slogan, “Ed the Barber.” The other three candidates’ priorities aren’t clear from their slogans.
While voter turnout in Tuesday’s primaries was low, it was not a record low. Less than 9 percent of eligible voters cast a ballot, compared with 6 percent in 1999 and 8 percent in 2008.
