Mrs. Avigail Rechnitz, a”h

The Los Angeles Jewish community and friends and relatives across the country were saddened to hear of the passing yesterday of Mrs. Avigail Rechnitz, wife of, ybl”c, Reb Yisroel Zev Rechnitz, the well-known philanthropist, at the young age of 39, after an illness.

Mrs. Rechnitz, a”h, was the daughter of Rabbi Chaim and Mrs. Rivkah Wakslak. Rabbi Wakslak is the Rav of the Young Israel of Long Beach.

Mrs. Rechnitz was the driving force behind the Ladies  Bikur Cholim of LA and baked, delivered food, and visited hospitals and nursing homes. She used her training as an attorney to help the elderly with their legal needs.

“Making other people happy — that’s what was important to her,” said a family member.

Reb Yisroel Zev is the owner of TwinMed Medical Supplies and Chairman of the Alumni Association of Telshe Chicago. He and his brother, Reb Shlome Yehuda Rechnitz, are renowned as major baalei tzedakah throughout the Jewish world.

Mrs. Rechnitz is survived by, ybl”c, her husband, parents, three young children — Meir, Elisheva and Yitzy — and her siblings, Dr. Menachem Wakslak (LA), Dr. Mordecai Wakslak (Lakewood) and Mrs. Yaeli Rosenberg of Queens.

A levayah was held in LA last night; kevurah was in Eretz Yisrael today. The family is sitting shivah in Los Angeles.
